They should at least do some proper XP sp3 CD's...
Looking rather unlikely we'll see an sp4 so at least a proper CD with sp3 should be done..
Anyways Vista should be about right by the end of the year, gives the hardware guys a bit longer to sort out drivers and the MS guys to sort out a few issues, OGL, network randomness etc...
I'm on xp, and if I upgrade the OS again from MS, it will be the successor to vista (supposed to be late '09, early '10, but we'll see).
Sadly, Its all about the CA$H. I truly hate vista as I was silly enough to buy the ultimate retail version the day it came out for my home. Of course, I was shocked at how crap it was and uninstalled it the first day. I'm an IT professional and would happily pay £400 for a PERFECTLY working XP. That means MS would have to put all their resources into XP for a couple of years and 2 more SP. But most ppl don't realise just how many ignored bugs there are in XP. Its all about the sales, F*** YOU Microsoft!!!!
Sending out some sympathy to all those creative individuals who made MS billions in the last few years and only got pennies from it (relatively)...I'm of course talking about the touch screen technology you see all around you...iphone and soon to be 100s of "new" LOL products with the MS technology LOOOOL. (Created by a team of NY phd students and bought and relabled as an MS invention) welcome to the evil corporate world we live in.

surely sacking off XP would force all the manufacturers to sort out their vista drivers... which is the only problem i have experienced. Even then i havent had too many problems. All th computers i have built for people using vista have said they liked it after they got used to the slightly different interface. I think everyone should stop whining and wiseup to reality.
The cynic in me says that someone has figured out a way to harvest e-mail addresses to sell to the spammers with an ultimately futile petition!
Yes, I like XP, it does it's job but surely it's about time that software developers made their programs compatable with Vista?? I get rather annoyed at the number of large companies who STILL don't support Vista with their products, and that goes double for Vista64.
Take Seagate, large scale manufacturers and their diagnostic program Seatools still doesn't support Vista64 and this is what, 18 months since they must have had their pre-production copies??
The market needs to move on to embrace the new ideas, yes Vista isn't perfect but there are areas that HAVE improved (security for one, the Sidebar is also a neat idea that has potential)

microsoft are too greedy
I wish XP could keep going.. I too brought VistaUltimate early on and it also only lasted in my system a few days before i went back to XP.. I had driver issues and bug with punkbuster online and this was the main reason.. I have since (last week) gone back to vista to take advantage of the dx10 games, but it's much more of a system hogger than XP..
I do like Vista inteface now but only when you tune it etc to get rid of the silly, "confirm 3 times" before it does something, and it looks a lot more polished. However i have to agree, it's all about the money with Microsoft.
My gripe with Vista is that when building my system i thought i would save money and buy the OEM vista ultimate x64.. Why the hell is this not transferrable to my new cpu/motherboard etc??? crazy. i will never buy any windows again. Atleast i brought a good rig because thanks to microsoft its gonna take me ages to change the OS again..
Microsoft of practically forcing users to keep buying new OS's by taking away XP, its a total con..
Also as for bugs.. i brought a vista sony laptop in beijing. It had chinese language on it so i reformatted the system after making a vista basic boot cd. Every time i install vista and register it and update everything, It gets the blues on loadup.. I get Blue screen saying default UI language pack is not installed??? i formatted the drive though and the CMOS is in English?? so how can this be?? No such problems with XP.. long life for XP

Then you were breaking the EULA of your OEM version. All microsoft have done is closed a loophole that allowed people to ignore the agreement. Nothing wrong with that.

Besides, you can always upgrade it to a new pc anyway. Your new motherboard is simply a replacement as your old one broke.

I've never had that problem before. I've even transferred an OEM licence from a laptop to a desktop before with no problemsDon't have to do that anymore tho as my uni gives out free copies of vista business to all students which is pretty cool!
Count yourself lucky then.
