Genius!! Why didn't they think of this sooner!? ...Oh wait? ...they did. It was called 'home economics' and was compulsory for 2 years when I was school. And every kid got a grounding in practical basic cooking and nutritional information.
Hell. I can still cook a 'Russian fish pie' to this day :p
lol - i want to be a minister...great perks with little brain power required.
Is this the same as home ec?
I had to do it too...
Maybe I should become a "food technology" teacher if there is a demand!
Had to teach my housemate how to seperate an egg last night... omg.
Why are the pretty ones always so dum...... wait a second she isn't even that pretty.
If your not able to seperate an egg you have to be 6foot, perfectly formed, 32/34B........ but i digress.
It amazes me how many people at uni couldn't cook spagetti properly. Yes, you need some oil in there or it will clump, yes you need to stir the clumpy oil-less mess or it will stick and burn, yes you need to have enough water, and yes you can over-cook it.
I was stunned at the lack of culinary ability at Uni, I had to teach a mate how to scramble eggs...
From what I remember our teachers used to double up on subjects, so your PE teacher was a stand-in English teacher etc. So the school had one dedicated home ec teacher and two who were qualified and would rotate and help out. It's not like your delivering a hardcore science subject. But you're right, you still have to entice and train the people, even if training is basic skills orientated training.
I didn't get that far tbh. It just makes me  - do that, when I read stuff like this. If that is the case then you're right, it's virtually worthless. It's not high level rocket science to make physical education and 'living skills' education, a base, a core part of a child's education package. Politicians of all persuasions know the answer but are incapable of delivering it for numerous reasons. Parents need to take responsibility too.
I loved Home ec at school.
I actually considered taking it instead of Computing. Wish I had now.
