PC Pro is saying it's delayed til March due to 'driver bugs.'

Allegedly not available on automatic Windows Update until mid-April but general Windows Update from middle of next month (according to the article.)
There are some drivers that cause issues, Microsoft will not be automatically rolling it out to machines that have those drivers installed. It'll be available from the download centre soon.Quote:

Absolutely - I'll be taking a full system image before it gets installed, and there will be LOTS of testing going on before Vista SP1 goes on any of the machines at work. That said I think the decision to hold off auto install on machines with known problematic drivers is a good one, given the number of Vista installs that are no doubt set to "automatically install all updates" (ie the recommended setting). Auto-fudging of machines the kind of publicity that Microsoft will be happy to avoid, I suspect.Quote:

If it's anything like the RCs, then SP1 can't be integrated manually. You'll need new media.
There's little to SP1 anyway - it's just a series of patches rolled up with the odd optimisation here and there. Everything in it is just a file replacement, unlike XPs SP2, which in essence rebuilt core parts of the OS.
What core parts like the kernel (SP1 brings a new one apparently)? :mrgreen:Quote:

The kernel is just a file replacement job apparently... surprised me too (going off a Microsoft bod on another forum, so I'm just relaying what I've heard). The kernel is to all intents and purposes the same as Server 2008, which looks quite tasty itself.
I'm looking forward to SP1 myself, but it is just a roll-up of patches with a few tweaks in there.
practically the whole of the kernel can update itself without restarting. Very impressive. If only the usermode developers would keep up!
It's what Microsoft have been threatening for a while now, so good news that they'yre getting closer.
