    Review :: Cloverfield

    Cloverfield, produced by JJ Abrams and directed by Matt Reeves, carried a marketing campaign that had the Internet buzzing for months. Having premiered in UK cinemas last week, it delivers an all too familiar monster movie in a far from familiar way.

    Re: Review :: Cloverfield

    I was a bit disappointed with it.. a reasonably new cinematic approach to a very tried and tested formula but it was never terrifying (as Parm said) and honestly, I didn't really care what happened to the characters either at the end.

    My first reaction to seeing the big creature was to laugh. The film felt much longer than it really was as well (rarely a good sign.) I'd give it 6 out of 10, maybe 7 if I were to be pushed but no more. I certainly wouldn't pay to see it again.

    I'll be honest and say I honestly hadn't heard of this until now. I thought it was going to be a new intel processor or something. *skips thread to avoid spoilers*

    Re: Review :: Cloverfield

    i have mixed feelings, love the fact its handcam, except seeing feet all time, love how it all unpans but talking at bigging is too long, and it kinda out of no where drops into hand cam makes no sense.

    I dislike the most that its only 1 hour and 10/20 mins long this annoyed me, as day out to cinema is meant to be exactly that not like a hour lol, i've played games longer.

    Got to say though its scary, kinda jumpy and a great film, a must see imo but not perfect.

    And one of the characters will make you laugh quite a few times and thats huck.

    Re: Review :: Cloverfield

    mixed views on this, technically, i like it. otherwise it's more based on how the characters deal with the monster attack. said monster doesn't get much fame.

    Re: Review :: Cloverfield

    Then I guess I'm the first one that didn't like it at all.
    the handcam approach is new and refreshing, but realistic asit may be, it almost gave me an headache.
    Seriously, I would like to warn anyone having light-induced eppileptic attacks, DON'T go to this movie.

    One of the biggest dislikes in this film was the "realism" of the injuries.
    The girl who got bitten in the tunnels (the one Huck likes so much) runs along happily moments later.
    Or even better, when the rescue the girl from the tipping skyscraper, she is pinned to the floor by a one inch piece of concrete-steel through her chest.
    the lift her up, freeing her of the steel in her chest and 10 minutes later, she is running through the park as if nothing is wrong...

    All in all a valiant, but in my opinion very much failed attempt.

    Re: Review :: Cloverfield

    The movie definitely has its faults but I just found it really enjoyable, a whole lot of fun.

    My only concern now is that they're already planning a sequel. Cloverfield to me seemed like one of those movies best left on its own.

    i really didn't enjoy this movie, the shaky cam was more annoying than anything else - i totally agree with Belgarath, the injuries were just silly as moments later they were ignored.
    bit of a disappointment for me as i was really looking forward to this movie!

    Re: Review :: Cloverfield

    I went to see this on the opening night and I have to say it's one of the best film's I have seen in the last couple of years. I especially enjoyed the refreshing medium through which it was filmed, as you say the YouTube style of production was totally original and very well executed adding to the suspense and bringing a realism to the movie.
    I found the plot somewhat unbelievable which was the major disappointment for me, but then again it is a 'monster' flick so there is no harm in the outrageous I suppose.
    My friend asked if I wanted to see it again and my answer was no... I am not sure if that is telling about the film but from my own perspective, I just do not want to watch it again so soon. Overall however I would totally recommend anyone to watch the film for its relative suspense, fair acting (I laughed quite a bit throughout, the guy behind the camera is v.funny) and great production.

    Re: Review :: Cloverfield

    Very enjoyable film, but for me, wasn't scary at all. It was like action horror, (like Final Destination) with no sinister edge. Another issue was just how hollywood it was - it could have been a little bit less hollywood, a little bit more realistic, and the actors should have looked less like models.

    But overall great film
