Re: Headlines - Evesham insists it's still in business

We used to have a business account with Evesham, I say used to as I didn't know till I phoned today that our account manager no longer works there and we no longer have a business account as they now only do direct sales, they have no dedicated business sales at all anymore.

Also in reference to the Engineers being layed off, it appears that all existing on-site warranties have been downgraded to RTB.

As a business customer it would have been nice to have been kept informed.

Now all I have to do is find a supplier that offers XP Pro as an option. Any one know of anyone other than Dell?

Re: Headlines - Evesham insists it's still in business

I was told yesterday that they've gone down the drain. The problem is a) my desktop-replacing laptop, bought from them, is there being repaired under warrantry, b) I've been paying for this buy credit for this for the past two months!

    Argh! What now?
This hot girl came over to myspace last night, she twittered my yahoo till I
googled all over her facebook. Ask Jeeves...

    System 1: Intel i5-2500k OC STABLE @5.05ghz with a ThermaTake Frio (air power!), 8Gb 1600 (9-9-9-24) R3 Patriot G2 RAM, nVidia GTX980TI ;

Could this finally be the end? I would love to hear from anyone who knows any more about the current situation at Evesham.

Yeah, I agree, to a point.

The current system I'm using is an Evesham though, for several reasons. Admittedly some of the reasons are null and void now however !

-Due to their relationships with OEM's they had stock of the monitor I wanted weeks (months possibly) before Scan and the likes got them.
-It had a 3yr on-site warranty which meant peace of mind, as if I was away somewhere, my missus could have had the PC fixed on-site. Also, most of the components in the PC were 2 yr warranties, Eveshams warranty effectively extended these to 3 years. And if I'd bought any of these parts myself I'd have to RMA them if they went faulty, as opposed to someone coming to my house and fitting a shiny new one.
-I didn't have to build the thing ! Lazy, but... meh !

-And last but not least, for the priviledge of all the above, it worked out about £75 cheaper than self-building. Good ole magazine "supertest" systems were always very cheap, I guess as they were effectively buying awards to boost their reputation. They always hid them away at the back of the brochure though, couldn't have been making much, if anything, on them

I've had this system 2 years, so all I've lost is the third years warranty. I haven't had a single issue with it. It was immaculately put together, quickly delivered, and all the parts inside were "big brand" and pretty close to the best of their ilk.

I'm genuinely saddened that I won't be able to buy another machine from them.

This doesn't put me off box-shifters though. For all I'm sticking together another couple of PC's myself, when this particular one croaks it's last I'll buy another turn-key job, for similar reasons to those above.

My first PC my dad bought me was a Pentium 100 based system from Escom - Two weeks later Escom went bankrupt.

My second was a custom configurated PC from CCL based around a K62-450 mhz, and it had no problems.

My third PC I wanted a good one around the time when the Geforce 3 was released. I also waited for an Athlon 1400 before getting it. I read PC mags and came across three companies that looked good - Mesh, Evesham, and Carrera SSC. All three of these had an Athlon 1400 and Geforce 3 based high end system, but carrera won because they had the cheapest one, yet a 5 year warranty while the other two only had 3 year warranties.

So my dad got me the carrera one (I was still in school back then). After setting it up it kept BSOD'ing, crashing, restarting itself and was 100% Unstable. I couldnt do a thing on it. It turned out that the CPU was overheating like crazy beyond 75 degrees, so they serviced it and added two system fans which reduced the CPU temp to 68 degrees and it was at least stable. This however was still really high for a stock CPU and cooler and two case fans.

A year later when upgrading, My brother removed the CPU fan (I still didnt know much about self building still) and it turned out that they hadnt removed the film off from the thermal pad on the CPU cooler

So I kind of learnt to self build because I didnt want to repeat these problems ever again.

Oh yea, when I bought the carrera the warranty said 3 years on site then 2 years return to base. However the week after buying it when they serviced it, they came to 'collect' the PC and return it to base, saying that they had recently changed all their warranties to 5 year return to base as this was easier for both the company and the customer! It took them two weeks to add the two fans, something that I could do in less then 15 minutes.

I must have been reading similar mags ! I bought an Athlon 1400 with Geforce 2 Pro. Bought from Evesham as I didn't really like the look of Mesh and Carrera seemed too good to be true, just had a bad feeling about them.

Sure, I can understand that, but when I get to be lazy and save a few bob, it's hard to turn down. And the missus still isn't interested in learning how to diagnose and repair PC problems. Useless !
