Good branding - "M&S Office Suite" doesn't sound at all like a Microsoft product

Minute Subset ? Tesco and M&S?

Try the entire of the UK.....I'll bet LOADS of people shop at both.

Everyone I know shops at both......M&S are in dream land (again) on this one if they think M&S punters won't spot it a week later in Tesco and go demand a refund.

This is not just Internet Security, this is over priced, nipple strokingly, bum clenchingly dear, M&S Internet Security

Well, everyone you know might but not everyone I know does.

Indeed, I suspect that Scott is spot on and that a majority of Tesco shoppers wouldn't consider buying food in M&S on a regular basis (except, perhaps for sandwiches if they happen to work somewhere close to an M&S outlet).

As a consequence, they're unlikely to be regular M&S shoppers (especially now that Tesco sells its own very affordable - and pretty decent - lines in underwear, socks, T-shirts and a whole lot of other clothing that so many people used to shop for exclusively at M&S).

Of course, it may be the case that most M&S regulars are also Tesco regulars but that certainly doesn't mean that most regular Tesco shoppers are also regular M&S shoppers.

Behind this thinking lies my view that:

1/ Many of the larger Tesco outlets (where most Tesco regulars get their big shopping done) do not have an M&S anywhere near - M&S still doesn't have the sort out out-of-town and shopping-estate coverage that Tesco does

2/ M&S food is a whole lot more expensive than Tesco food

All this said, I have my opinion and you have yours but what I suspect neither of us have (Scott, do you?) are the figures that might back up our beliefs which, as they stand, are so much hot air.

Oh, and though I do think that Tesco is about the smartest of the retail operators in the UK, please don't get me started on the news reporting that happens when the company is about to open a new store somewhere it's never operated before (or a huge new store).

It might well be the case that Tesco opening a store results in the creation of XXX jobs - as gets reported - but what's never reported (okay, hardly ever reported) is that it also is likely to result in the destruction of many more jobs than Tesco is creating by that opening!

Oh and Scott, what a GREAT headline for that story!

    I love it.

It might be obvious but, heck, it's the thinking of it and then the using of it that count.

Thanks Bob, I just love sending up those M&S ads, they're so pretentious.

Regarding Tesco, I actually have no idea what the figures are for people who shop at both. I just made an assumption based on the different demographics they appear to be targeting. However, presumably even really posh people don't do all their grocery shopping at M&S.

I do, of course, like the idea but, in my view, a lot of outfits will be too scared to complain - but, hopefully, I'm wrong.
