So Whatt the hell is this about?
Even an SLI watercooled dual quad core system wouldn't need 1kw of juice. Enless its a case of getting a horrifically overrated PSU so that it dosen't run too hot, thus needing the fan to cool it so much.
Think of it like cars, going green with hybrids or smaller cars is all the talk these days.
But, you still get the few with too much money driving around in 8 litre Ferrari's just for the sake of it.
In a similar sense, you'll get the few building PCs with 1000W PSUs...just for the sake of it.
Hmmm it's fairly clear that we are going down the road of multiple power-hungry GPUs, and they clearly need these stupidly powerful PSUs. I want a Corsair HX that is a bit more beefy than the 620W, which would power my system nicely but wouldn't give quite as much headroom as I would like. I defo wouldn't need 1000W though. My system draws 310W whilst playing Supreme Commander.
honestly, 1000W maybe way to much, but i am sure there is a market for it, and with the amazing HX seires going to the 1k then im guessing all other competitors now should cower in fear. If the HX series make a 850W and 400W, they will be the monoploy giants of PSUs.

Keep in mind that if the system load is 200w, an 80% efficiency 500w PSU and an 80% efficienty 1000w PSU will pull the same amount of power from the wall. It's not pulling full power 24/7 so there is no difference in usage here.
Also, imagine to yourself a Skulltrail MOBO, OCed with 4 modules, or a similar dual CPU AMD rig with dual FX-74s running a pair of 3870X2s (or a similar rig with the upcoming Nvidia 9800GX2s), multiple HDs, etc etc. The guy that builds that rig is the guy that will buy our HX-1000.
hmmmm doesn't Seasonic make the Corsair PSU's? I havent heard of a 1000W from them, so what's the chances this might have been sourced from another PSU manufacturer?
We use both Seasonic and Channelwell as our OEMs. The HX-1000 is being built by CWT.
