NVIDIA kicks off GeForce 9 series: declares it the largest single-generation performa

NVIDIA today launched the 9600GT, the first GPU from its GeForce 9 series, and it's clear to see the graphics-processor manufacturer is stoked. It declared that its "next-generation GeForce 9 Series that may offer the largest single-generation performance jump in the company’s history".

Exactly and the 8800Ultra has been around for a while now so are we not due an actual Next Generation card from Nvidia.

Personally I think the whole launch has been a waste of time for high end users as I am already running Sli 8800GTX's - Crysis still runs like a pig on stilts and I do not think the 9800Gx2 will increase performance enough for the cost !!

I had high hopes for the 9 Series but it looks like I am going to be disappointed

I think nVidia means highest performance jump as in 8600GT vs 9600GT, but that's only because the 8600GT was mind-boggingly rubbish.

Just received an email today informing that the 9600GT cards are now in stock: - Nvidia @ Specialtech
Are these cards any good and how do they compare to other cards. I notice that they are quite cheap so presumably they are only mid-range cards?

Not that I want one, I'm looking more towards the 3870x2, I think.

The 9600GT is the same as a 3870 performance wise.

Yeh really how did they messup the 8800GT or even the newer gts model. They kick the crap out of the old 8800GTS and for the price their cheaper. The 9600is near the 3850/70 but the price is more, id rather get the 3870.

The 9600 is a fail imo, still not cheap enough.

also, the 9800x2 everyone is saying that is the 8900x2, the 9800GTX/GTS are supposed to be 2x better then their old 8800 counter parts.
