    Adobe launches free online photoshop

Don't venture in here often because I'm no photographer but I thought you guys might find this interesting...

Adobe has released its Photoshop Express web-based imaging application as a public beta. Photoshop Express uses much of Adobe’s image editing technology and has been repurposed as a web-based application. Users can store up to 2GB of images online for free, make edits to their photos and share them online. Photoshop Express also allows users to download and upload photos from popular social networking sites like Facebook. The application provides ’standard edits’, such as removing blemishes and red-eye, converting to black and white, cropping and resizing.

Photoshop Express also offers tricks like Pop Color which selects an object in an image, mutes the background colour of the photo and allows the user to swap the object’s colour so that it “jumps off the page”. Sketch effects make photos look like drawings, and a Distort feature allows users to distort facial features or objects for a comical or artistic effect. Adobe said that even users with limited photo editing knowledge can simply select what looks best from a line-up of sample photos with visual hints showing different variations of the added effect. During the public beta period, Adobe will solicit user feedback on product features and functionality which will “continue to evolve over time”.

Looks very, very useful for an average user to make quick edits on the go whilst online

Always looking for extra redundancy for my treasured snaps... this looks rather natty, I'll give it a spin and report back!

Re: Adobe launches Photoshop Express, takes Photoshop online

Well, it's not working for me!

I've got a relatively small (0.9MB) JPEG that I tried to upload and kept on getting an error message:

Some photo(s) failed to upload for the following reason(s):

-Photo dimensions exceed 4000x4000 pixels; file is an unsupported format; file is corrupt.

    OK*

Yet, according to the FAQ, I'm doing everything right (and I know the file is NOT corrupt).

I wonder if Adobe had anything to do with the software running Terminal Five at Heathrow Airport?

Actually, on reflection, perhaps Adobe has let me sign up but is not letting me use the upload facility because I'm based in the UK.

The FAQ has this related entry:

Q: Why does it say US-Only on the registration page?
A: Photoshop Express is brand new, and in beta. We’re beginning with US residents and will extend service to the rest of the world as soon as possible. Note that if you attempt to use Photoshop Express from outside the US right now, you may experience poor performance as all data will have to travel to and from the US-based servers.

So is this Adobe's way of saying it's usual line, "If you're not in the USA, sod you!"?

*Oh, and NO, it's NOT OK!

Er, but I did then manage to upload a quite different pic okay and to upload the original one after I'd halved its size (though the original was within the limits - 10Mb and 4000x4000 pixels).

    D'oh!
