wow, I wonder how much they paid a consultancy firm to tell them that making something cheaper means the demand will increase?
Someone doing GCSE economics, or even business studies (FTW?!) could have told them that!
...Good news though
People never miss a chance to bitch about Microsoft do they? Seriously, Vista's been out for over a year and it's past the holiday season. A price cut at this point says nothing about Vista's sales figures but more about the fact that Microsoft, like every other company in existance, cuts the price on products after the early adopter take up.
Linux based OS are the much better choice for obvious reasons ... do some research if you're interested in the facts.
If you then still have to ask for why ... then I'd say it's about clarifying who is the master and who is the slave in regards to USER & COMPUTER ...
Only the mainstream is blinded by the whistle & eyecandy of microsoft OS.
Well MS are damned either way - i've just come to accept that i'm going to read how anything that MS does is a bad thing. MS is a company of contrasts - some stuff it puts out is really bloody good, some 'meh' and some bloody awful. However, it's human nature to focus on the latter and it's 'cool' to hate MS too.
The same's true with Apple - but the boxes are much more shiny and the PR much better done..
Annnnnnyway.. price cuts are a good thing and will save people money so i can't see it as being anything but positive.
What you think doesn't matter, or what I think doesn't matter either.
Only fatcs count.
And fact is that Windows OS is designed not with the user in mind but with the money all people involved can make.
Linux is an open source OS and it has evolved to a high quality product - not to make any money, but created by people who know that the PC is the Slave and not the User.
It's about indipendancy - authority - intelligence - honesty - clarity of information ...
Does this mean Microsoft are going to start using real exchange rates? Instead of those crazy ones they've been using for ages where a US dollar is mysteriously worth twice as much as it actually is?

Aaaaaaaaaand... it's people like you that put people off adopting an alternative OS. Linux is great and all that (I've a debian server at home and I dual boot my laptop between Ubuntu and Vista, I prefer FreeBSD for my firewall), but it's not the perfect OS for all situations. Gaming under linux still doesn't cut it for me (yes, I'm fully aware of WINE and Cedega), and I'm afraid that's one of the biggest barriers for linux on the desktop. The single biggest obstacle to most people even tryng to run linux is "I know better than you" attitudes such as yours, and those of the kind of people found largely on Slashdot.
Still, at least you didn't call Miscrosoft M$, Microsuck, Microshaft or any of the other things I expect from linux zealots.
OMG QUIK GET TEH TIN FOIL HATZ OUT LOL
TBH I spent about 10 mins looking at his post and really just couldn't be bothered.
I'm all for debate but I just can't get my head around that kind of thinking - it's just so..
Unless "Cov" is using a motherboard made out of recycled toilet rolls, solar powered hard drives and a faitrade CPU, his argument is null and void.
