Welcome to the world's fastest laptop, brought to you by Intel and ATI

What's the betting that it's considerably faster than your desktop?

My desktop doesn't hold a candle to that!

The line between desktops and laptops is blurring quicker than ever. Already, I can't see myself having much need to ever build another PC. I can see myself getting another laptop somewhere down the line, and hooking that up to an external monitor.

The main bottlekneck is still the hard drive, but SSDs are sorting that out (unless you have a Macbook Air where the SSD is no better performing than a spinning disk)

If they actually make it into a laptop, I doubt it would be very portable... not sure about how reliable it would be with all the heat that must give out. I don't think they will ever replace desktops properly. Plenty of reasons, eg:
    -cooling
    -hard drive space
    -overclocking
    -limited connectivity
    -limited upgrades
    -limited customisability

Laptops are nice to have but since getting my laptop, I still use my desktop a lot more!

Lol... the main bottleneck is surely going to be the price.

It might well be fast, but as I'll never be able to afford one I would think that my desktop will still be able to massively outperform a non-existent laptop...

wow... thjat thing is going to be extremekly expensive. Considering how expensive a full-bled 3870X2 is, this thing is going to be almost ludicrous... really fast, though, but IMO it is excessive for a laptop

Re: Welcome to the world's fastest laptop, brought to you by Intel and ATI

I can visualise a future where the term “Laptop” is replaced by RFPC (Reduced Format PC) or some similar term or name. These portable systems will weigh in at 12 to 14lbs + and have full upgrade ability with easy access settings for memory, HDD, FSB, Multi core CPU, 24-72 hour powerpacks, Multiple Broadband and Cell phone networks connectivity (terrestrial satellite) etc.

You can buy Laptop system with 17-20" LCD, 2xHDD -7200rpm, Dual GPU, PhysX card, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2Mp Camera, DVD or Blu Ray optical drive, Dual Core 2.0-3.0Ghz CPU from about £1350 - £2800.

The end user would benefit by saving space, and being able to move the system to another room or location without having all the baggage that comes with a desktop/tower setup.

The environment will benefit from reduction in material for recycling or dumping, when compared to desktop PC (base unit, keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers and loads of cables).

Fit a tablet style swiveling screen and you you can put it in a stand and use it as a TV

These things are also good for students who mostly keep it in halls, but go home at the end of term. Much easier than packup up a full PC.
