    Review :: UEFA EURO 2008 - Xbox 360

    Don't be fooled into thinking that UEFA EURO 2008 is a slightly updated version of FIFA 08. Find out why I think that EA's latest soccer title is the bes to have even been released from the studio, and indeed the best football game on the market.

    I actually did think it would be just FIFA 08 with a Euro 2008 tournament built in. Best football game, ever? I certainly didn't see that coming.

    The celebrations do sound fun, but are they just fun for a while? I'll be interested in having a game of this, FIFA 08 was definitely a big step up for the FIFA series, this sounds like another one.

    Seemed ok on the demo, nowt special. Best football game ever? You are obviously having a giraffe. Still each to his own.

    Steven, when I was playing it, the tackling left me cold. As far as I could tell you can either jockey the player, hoping to get a toe on the ball, usually doing nothing, or press the other button which immediately fouled the player with the ball giving them a free kick.

    What was I missing?

    Oh, and where is the HEXUS Ikaruga review? If any XBLA game so far deserves some attention, its that one.

    hmm thats odd stewart, its actually a lot harder to attack than defend. The defender always has the advantage and you can rarely just run through opponents.

    Hmm, I've been able to slide in just like I have done on FIFA to take the ball cleanly. I would say that timing for slide tackles does need to be more accurate though because the turning of the AI players seems to be quicker, so they can avoid your tackles a bit more.

    Against a human controlled opponent, the tackling feels much like it does with FIFA online. I'm quite aggrssive online with FIFA in tackling and when I played it multiplayer the slide tackling felt much the same, but the jostling did seem slightly different and perhaps more difficult to get the ball. AI defenders do seem to have an edge though.

    One thing I did notice against the CPU is that you hardly ever get a free-kick because they don't tend to slide in on you - mind you I'm only playing semi-pro.

    At the moment this is keeping me of FIFA. It's hard to describe just how good I think Captain Your Country mode is, it's partly to do with being able to see your name on the shirt and hear your voice, but it's such a fluid game experience as well and competing against your own teammates really adds a new dimension.

    If anyone wants me to check whether there surname is included ,just let me know!

    I agree with that. I used to kick off and run straight at the goal, weaving around the defence, but they seem a bit sharper, even on the lower levels.

    Maybe its that I'm playing the demo then, so its only 2 mins a half, and always against the CPU, and on semi-pro.

    So this is better than PES?

    I'd pick it up but I'm half skint and GTAIV will be here soon.

    i think its way better than pes this time round. And thats after many years of pes playing over fifa (ISS n64 through to pes6). Then again you might not find it so dont blame me if you buy it and dont like it!

    If you love PES you really love PES, but personally I prefer the gameplay in FIFA since FIFA 08. I just think this has the whole package, great gameplay, great presentation, good graphics, atmosphere of playing in a big match, excellent game modes. For me, I do think this is the best football game I've played as far as the whole package goes, I reckon FIFA 09 will be even better.

    I think it's better than PES, but I guess they'll be plenty of PES fans who'd disagree. It's really a matter of opinion. I don't think the demo quite does EURO 2008 justice.

    Re: Review :: UEFA EURO 2008 - Xbox 360

    You know what i think fifa has surpassed PES. I was a PES fan but after PES08 and playing Euro 2008. Euro 2008 feels silky smooth, looks good too. Be a pro mode is excellent, i love the fact you control a single player. you have to find the space, make the runs and also make sure your not off side. You get a player rating which can go up or down, if your the highest at the end of the game you get man of the match. Only thing with this game is that it will feel cut down compared to fifa 08. If fifa 09 is like this thats getting my money.

    Re: Review :: UEFA EURO 2008 - Xbox 360

    i played the demo of this and i can safely say that i cannot go back to fifa 08 anymore. i simply fell in love with euro 2008. it is argubaly the best footy game out. it takes all the good parts from fifa 08 and the good parts from PES into one package. it is truely an amazing game and i am looking forward to buying this.

    edit: before fifa 08 came out i was a loyal pro evo fanboy so that speaks for itself. there is only a small yes smal minority who still love PES over fifa. a site called evo web(yes a dedicated PES forum website) is flooded with fifa fans now.

    PES2008 for the Wii is the new home of football imo though.

    If you realise all the passes that you can now do, oh its so sublime its untrue.

    Well we are playing different games then. Its clumsy, the tackling is terrible, and as far as I can tell if the AI crosses the ball or gets a corner, its always a goal for them.

    Each to his own as I said. I think its ****e.
