This to me looks like the best of the bunch of the new breed of ultraportables. If the price is right then I'll be getting one.

Looks interesting - question is size/cost really.
Is the campaign going to be "Got Wind?"
They've really got to get a new name for it.

as long as the case doesn't have MSI Wind written on it then I'll be happy. I would of thought someone would point out that Wind has another meaning.
Now now, we all pi**ed ourselves laughing when we heard 'Wii', but that seems a good idea now.
I can't wait to go into a shop and ask if they got wind
The only thing that I don't like is that it comes with a 2.5" hard drive. I hope there is a SSD option as well as I want a robust laptop and go mechanical parts.

It looks good, and the specs sound ok, if they do a model with the option of an ssd (only, of course, this will steepen the price and lower the storage size, but as this will(?) be a secoundary device this wouldn't bother me) then I would have to have a hard look at one.
That's a bit of a killer for me - SSD on the eee is excellent speed wise (and lowers power consumption further). I'm probably still edging towards the eee 900 as being the best balance (when it's atom-ised).Originally Posted by slypie

£70 today for a 16gig, that will be £50 at most by june? (after intel have waided in full scale too).
the 900 came out expensive, missing all the crap features i was saying they should cut down on to make it cheap. This has a much much better batterylife, sling in an SSD and its very very tempting.

Does it? 3 hours versus 2.5 is much much better? Will the 900A not (most likely) get better battery life by default?
Doesn't look to me like they'll be much difference between the two come June.

For the SSD you linked to. Nosing round a decent performing 8GB SSD costs ~100quid (2.5" IDE/SATA).

If it's actually 7 hours battery life It'll be a huge hit. At 1kg it's getting heavy though.
I think another huge seller would be putting the same bits in a 12in chassis for a low price.

It's 3 (apparently) as a result of the small battery (just like the eee). Doesn't matter too much anyway as both the eee and wind can have larger cap. batteries fitted for reasonable money but it does look like (so far) that neither atom-based laptop will offer radically better battery life (although the eee 900A might do better overall due to having SSD versus a 'old-skool' HD).

How much battery life do you get with the extended battery?
My Portege R100 weighs 1.45kg with the extended battery (1.1kg without) for 5hrs plus life. Until they can provide better battery life for a sensible price and relatively low weight, I won't be getting one.
Quick google:
5hrs for $65. Makes it pretty chunky and it'll be less on the 8.9in EEE and the equivalent would be even less again on the 10in MSI.
Can't post the url but google "3rd party extended batteries available on eBay"
