Isn't this an old story, at least 2 to 3 weeks, and only applies to motherboards that don't have a 5-phase power supply? It's not a chipset problem.

This headline is completely misleading. There is no incompatibility between Phenom chips and the 780G chipset. The problem, as stated by the poster above, is simply that some motherboard manufacturers haven't specified their boards to work with chips with a TDP above about 95W. I suggest that you make this clear.

Looks like I'm late on this one but yeah its noth the chipset its the power regulators on the cheapo motherboards that can't handle the power that are the problem. That said, I think an X3 is fine for an HTPC anyway :nod:

I know I'm no PR man for AMD, but this is rather unfair to suggest the incompatability was with the 780G chipset.

There are 780G's with proper 5 phase ones I recall, just a majority of them wanted to make cheapo 3 phase boons that don't take 125W TDP chips..

Its the AIB manufacturer's fault, not AMD's chips..

I guess it would be relatively easy with Nehalem (there'll be a new revision by then anyway I assume) compared to Core2, still using the memory controller on the northbridge and the FSB system. It's highly unlikely there'll be one until then.

Still, this is the sort of article you'd see on the Inq or Fud or something, and certainly not something Tarinder has made a habit of.

ehh bit worried now I've just built a Media Center PC with a Phenom X4 9750 and a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard. I'm not going to go home and find my house has burned down?

If there are incompatibilities with my equipment above would it not work? How do I tell if I'm affected?
