cor 1kg! The gemini wasn't phenomenal and I don't see this being real good either. For 35 quids better get either a thermaltake big typ, TRUE or IFX-14

But the thing to remember is that they claim it is an effective passive heatsink, whereas as far as I know, the Big typ and the like are not designed to be run without fans.

It will be interesting to see exactly how well it performs in a purely passive capacity!

ifx-14 and true can run passive iirc on anandtech reviews they could run passive on a qx6800 while still keeping the cpu cooler than the intel stock hsf.

I dont see why people make such a big fuss over fanless coolers, if you get a Big Typ120VX then stick it on low fan speed you cannot hear the thing at all (ear right next to it with nothing else in the room and I have a fanless PSU). Seems a fair bit cheaper and less heavy so shouldnt damage the motherboard....

I agreee but as you know, each to their own I wouldn't want that 1kg+ heavyweight on my mobo unless it was horizontal. Ideal for a HTPC I suppose.

Thanks for those links Dr Cool.
It does look very impressive, but I too would be very reluctant to have a 1kg heatsink in the PC.

Not to turn the topic away, but I did notice that Cooljag Falcon 92-Cu Heatsink, and it looked very promising, until I read a review on it. The noise level for the low setting on the fan was quite high, and considering the Artic Cooling fan on the Freezer pro does 20 odd dB on 1200 it isn't an entirely convincing fan. However, with that said, it does perform well and you could always replace the fan yourself (it looks like you could put a 92mm in there) or just make sure its always on low.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
