    Windows XP SP3 issues

I have been reading about issues arising from XP SP3, especially on PCs with AMD processors. I would be interested to hear about any experiences HEXUS readers have had with XP3.

    Re: Windows XP SP3 issues

Fantastic experience here to be honest - install was a breeze, no problems and boot-up seems faster.

    AMD X2 user here.

I gather the problems only arise when you use an Intel-customised XP install image, which you'd be daft to do on an AMD machine.

    Re: Windows XP SP3 issues

I've updated my PC and Laptop at home and had no obvious issues with it. The PC did freeze up a couple of times whilst playing some games but I think that might have been due to some overheating.

Its not an AMD issue by the sounds of things, its a driver issue with OEM's including the wrong ones on their images.
SP3 has changed something for these to now be causing an issue where previously they were not.

No issues here with SP3. Totally painless

    Re: Windows XP SP3 issues

I'm getting issues when shutting down. Instead of going to the 'Windows is shutting down' page, it reboots itself straight from explorer, which is a bit of a worry. It means if I want to switch the thing off, I have to wait for it to do a restart, then a shut down from the login screen. Apparently it's an issue with some Logitech USB driver, but I don't know when there's going to be a fix.
