DSGi is one british company i don't mind to see circling the drain
Re: Headlines - DSGi predicted to close up to 200 stores
Won't they just all go and work for Best Buy?

I mind. They're usefully local.

so is tesco. and i'd trust their staff to have been given more training than the so-called "expert sales staff" at any DSGi store

The good ones will, the rest will end up at Comet.
Re: Headlines - DSGi predicted to close up to 200 stores
No great shame, I will be quite happy to see them go.
I cant even feel too bad for the employees, the bright ones are smart enough to know better and the rest are incompetent at best.
Re: Headlines - DSGi predicted to close up to 200 stores
Well, as business moves go, this makes sense. There's a fair few towns that have both stores in the same retail park and whilst the short term cost is fairly high in redundancy payouts, I'm sure it'll lead to a healthier business.
As for the "use" of these stores, we all have bad experiences with retail staff from time to time. Let's not forget that our society has made a majority of these jobs only deseriable for the lower end of society.
Re: Headlines - DSGi predicted to close up to 200 stores
Or commonly for students who can't/won't commit to longer hours than needed to pay their way?
I'm sure most students who work at the likes of Currys, Comet etc would like to work at a company which increases the value to their future employers but can't work a full week due to studying...

Likewise, all stores charge far to much for most products sold in store. I can understand a slight markup but in the case of DSGi its a massive markup. PC World selling network cable which is a few meters long for £10 is one example of rediculous prices.

I would put as much blame on Belkin as PCWorld for that one.
Just like Monster and Comet. The retailer might be making a nice healthy markup, but so is the manufacturer.
Re: Headlines - DSGi predicted to close up to 200 stores
To be fair PC World have improved massively in terms of value for money. There is still the odd item that they're using to help pay for the additional retail costs, but it's a world better than it used to be.

price isn't my problem
it's exploitation, deliberate exploitation, of their captive audience
the sales tactic of "lie convincingly" is not a good one - it certainly should not be company policy

Maybe, but I don't care what training the staff have, because I know what I want, and they're a conveniently local place to get it. And I can't get what I want at Tesco.
Re: Headlines - DSGi predicted to close up to 200 stores
For all those doing a bit of DSGI bashing (which is fine) just remember that people could potentially be loosing their jobs, I know the smart ones will jump ship before pushed but there are those who have worked for the company for years and don't know anything other than retail and it would be hard for them to get into another job with another company. Especially those who are nearing reitrement.
