Atom-based systems sound like the perfect HTPC/download box to me. Depending on the graphics chip (crossing fingers HD3450/4450/integrated is possible) we look to have the perfect platform for 24/7 use. When SSDs get to a half-decent capacity, or you just empty stuff to a NAS/your main PC, then I can't see much better scenarios in the foreseeable. Probably 20W max power draw under load? I'll have some of that please!
The only limiting factor I can see with these Eee PCs for us enthusiasts is that it'll be crippled for decoding HD video. No much of an issue for me (I'll happily build my own box around an Atom as soon as I can, unless it's far worse than is expected, or the VIA Nano is better than expected). I guess it's aimed at a different market to the 701 laptops.
