That looks like a custom 8800GT to me as it only has one power connector; the 9800GT is rumoured to have two.

Specs are very similar to the 8800gt, I would not be surprised if the 9800gt is just a re branded version of the 8800gt, maybe slightly overclocked.

ATI? They are anticipating the can of whoopass that is about to be opened on Nvidia

My prediction is that ATI will take the whole sub £150 market

    Me me me!

I want something that costs around the same price as a 8800GT but performs better. The 4850 and 9800GT look to fit the bill perfectly.

You know, you can overclock 8800GTs by 30MHz (read: 9800GT) for free

But you might be able to overclock the 9800GT by 30MHz more than the 8800GT so 30MHz faster for free (assuming price will be the same)

30mhz is rubbish and I've seen enough problems with factory overclock 8800GTs that I wouldn't want to try that

My point is the 9800GT is just a 8800GT that's been clocked 30MHz faster. You'll never notice (unless NVIDIA code their new drivers to cap the 8800x performance, which would be beyond underhand, but not unheard of (eh, Creative?)).

At least the 9800GTX gave something over the 8800GTX (lower power consumption). The 9800GT seems to offer absolutely nothing over the 8800GT (except a higher price tag, presumably) - it's on the same process, using the same chips, almost at the same speed. Perhaps the cooler will change...

I thought it was going to end up the same speed as a 9800GTX..

Re: Headlines - NVIDIA 9800 GT details begin to surface

Looking around further it might even have the same speeds (in which case the 30MHz one may just be factory overclocked) and the same number of shader units... but with 2 6pin power sockets... :\

Another rumour is that companies can market the 8800GT as a 9800GT if they want... expect some stickers on some boxes :\

If any of this turns out to be true, what the hell are NVIDIA trying to do? They're already hated enough over the 9800GTX fiasco.

Re: Headlines - NVIDIA 9800 GT details begin to surface

Ah apologies. I missed that. Thought it was still on the 65nm process. Not really worse than the 8800GTX-9800GTX move then (though still hardly stellar, and less of a jump (that was 90nm to 65nm if I remember right).

Re: Headlines - NVIDIA 9800 GT details begin to surface

yeah 55nm is kind of an intermediate that g-cards seem to do now and again (ATI with there 80nm's for one).

if there only adding 30mhz then they must be running a hell of a lot cooler, and needing a hell of a lot less power or something is wrong.
