Nvidia must make these cuts to stay competitive, but they will probably end up alienating many of their existing or potential customers in the process. I would be pretty damn pissed to see a product I bought last week drop by £40+.
What will be running through peoples minds now is that it seems that nvidia have been overcharging their consumers given the lack of competition until now.
All good for the consumer for the future though!!!!
oooh, this is starting to get handy
i'm in need of an upgrade
9800GTX@ £130 is for pre orders only on scan so is not a real price. Scan have a terrible reputation doing this just for show and to get orders and not fulfilling them.

The £ 134.22 price, (which I presume you are referring to ) for the LN 22090 - 512MB Leadtek 9800 GTX, PCI-E 2.0, Mem 2200MHz, GDDR3, GPU 675MHz, 128 Cores, 2x DL DVI-I/HDTV is based upon the Buy price ( When the product was ordered )
http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=787790
In line with the price reductions NVIDIA are rolling out this card was reduced just over 2hrs ago from £ 144.99 Ex VAT to £ 114.23 Ex VAT, which is a £ 30.76 Ex VAT reduction or % 21.
The current Retail price of the product "mentioned" is a very real price is what we will be Retailing this card for and I can assure anyone reading this post that we can fulfill order's at this price as we have a large order in place due for delivery on the 8th July.
I have checked the UK market and this price is competitive so we expect no issues in shifting this stock at this great price.
I would also like to address the misguided comment that "Scan have a terrible reputation doing this just for show and to get orders and not fulfilling them"
In cases of price drops, we would only be able to reduce the Retail price for existing stock if the Manufacturer can offer us a rebait on the stock we have. In cases where a rebait is not possible then we would only be able to reduce the price once our Buy price for new stock is reduced and Retail prices are changed in real time.
In other instances such as the recent 45nm CPU shortage, which affected all Retailers - SCAN actually paid an increased buy price to fulfil our back order's but did NOT pass this the premium we paid onto these customer's - So we took the hit, to get the back order’s shipped!
So we took the order's and fulfilled the back order's at the original price the Customer paid for their back order.
So to be frank your comments are misguided, you are WRONG and we don't have this "terrible reputation" you speak of!
Best Regards

*points at nVidia and laughs*
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
*deep breath*
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Well now I know why the 8800s where so flipping expensive. Talk about a flipping blunder on nVidia's part, having underestimated ATi, they're now paying the price. Bravo.
Let's hope they do better next time eh?
if it wasnt for nVidia there would still be a 3dfx
