That's quite a nifty idea, it's a shame it doesn't *quite* have enough ease of use for typical home users though. Give it a nice, cut down linux based media OS designed to host video and music files, a remote control and maybe an optional add on monitor so you can take it portable and it'd be the perfect home entertainment package

Have to see how well it would play 720p and 1080p files through vlc or similar. With a nice lightweight distro of linux it would make a brilliant HTPC. I wonder what linux the linux version will have. I'd probably just move it straight over to mythbuntu or xubuntu anyway...

Re: Headlines - ASUS Eee Box priced: got £200 to spare?

previews already tell you to forget 1080p as the chipset is too crapola. If they had waited for Poulsbo then that has HD acceleration in the integrated VGA

720P works but uses 90% CPU or something like that (if memory serves)

Will be great as a Xvid playback box tho...

Re: Headlines - ASUS Eee Box priced: got £200 to spare?

tempted, have to say. I have a couple of xbox's that run XBMC as media centers, just wondering if this is a worthwhile upgrade, my only concern is the comments about HD playback, the xbox can handle any xvids, divx etc etc but crawls if I try to stream 720p to it (poor old celery 733)

That FULL REVIEW has the title of the page as PREVIEW !!!!!

Only downside to using as a download box is that its 2.5" HDD rather than 3.5". No Terabyte drives in 2.5"

2.5" keeps the system quite, cool and energy efficient, ill just have to empty it every couple of days onto my 1TB external.

External HD.. nice and tidy (not!).. I can see me trying to bolt that to the back of the TV like the EEE box can be attached...

Have you seen the price of a 500gb 2.5" drive?

Very interesting. Could be a good solution for a media pc in the living room for watching media.

Whats with the ASUS Wii Nunchuck in those pics?

EDIT - Infact it's basically in a wii case

Where IS that release date? I hate it when products are "announced" and then "released" and still aren't actually in the shops.
