I'm confused. It's essentially the same model isn't it, just with a larger drive.

To clear up confusion.

This 80GB model is a new model. The 80GB model out there at the moment has PS2 backward compatibility. The new one doesn't.

It's the 40GB model with an 80GB HDD.

LOL, so there's now two 80GB PS3's in the US. I'd guess the older one will be phased out? God knows.

Once stock of the current model is getting low will they bring in the 80gb model. Same thing happened with the DS3.

If it is a new 40GB SKU with a larger hard drive, it also has no card reader.
