Not exactily perfectly controlled conditions but as said by corsair in the article - they are not trying to educate those of us that know cheap PSU's are cr@p, but those of us that think all PSU's are the same provided their peak wattage claims are the same.

Haha, that's really rather funny...

Brought back some bad memories though - I have had a cheap PSU do exactly this within 10 minutes of first plugging it in... Got away with just a dead psu and a horrible fried-electrics-smell though, thankfully the rest of my computer survived unscathed!

And yes, that's definitely a Coolermaster logo you catch a glimpse of just at the end... although I can't recall any Coolermaster PSUs that ship in green boxes...

What happens in warranty situations when a budget failed PSU would spike and destroy something expensive in the PC?

lol, having seen a few PSU's go bang i was a little disappointed by that video I've seen caps flying across the building, serious amounts of smoke and fried PCB's, all fun as long as your not looking over the PSU at the time

So, there you have it folks, Corsair claims its PSUs are guaranteed not to dramatically explode.

Not sure if thats even possible, component failure can happen in the best equipment.

is q-tec really bad? i have a 500w one that i bought from my local store for £20 (yes this was before i was in the know about decent psu etc, for my old rig). Its still powering along with no issue, maybe im just really lucky?

The videos more of a joke than serious so doubt its a CM, dont nvidia green stacker cases come in that box?.

There are limits to what are budget and just lower prices, i have a xclio here with voltages good and performance is great, very reliable and so for paying alot less than corsair when i bought this i think its good. Corsair are probably the next psu i look into if i ever need one though,.

That box seems to be a Chassis box not a PSU box

Hi all. Yes, the CM box is a chassis box, not a PSU box. We're not trying to suggest 'Brand X' was CM. We didn't want to name the brand because we're not having a pop at anyone in particular. It was meant to highlight how cheap, low-quality PSUs in general are, well, bad.
