I don't understand... why didn't they just sensibly price it in the first place...
Because they'll still not lose much, even through offering this. Very few will take advantage, and next to none in pre-built systems (which will account for quite a percentage I'd imagine - most enthusiasts were waiting for the ATI cards before committing), if they can at all.
It's like the cash-back offers on low-end DSLR cameras that Canon and Nikon always seem to have. They rely on some/most not taking advantage of it to make up for those who do.
Then why offer it at all?
I wish they were offering it on the 9800GTX's too :/
Bought mine when they came out, 2 months later they had dropped from £200 to £100. So annoying.
I hear you asking why buy a 9800GTX, because at the time I needed a new card and they weren't much more than a 8800GT and I didn't see the market getting as cheap as it has
It's because NVIDIA protect partners and partners decided to pass this to you the consumer.
It's positive and offers protection against sudden price drops on products.
Its nice that they are offering it to non-US, and acknowledging we exist. But funny how they go with the currency that is in there favor on the rebate. But on actual prices we never see that.
As per usual we get screwed.
