Sounds good, only issue seems to be the Hard Drive space... really need 100gb+ drive for PVR function (HD Recordings??) bearing in mind the current Hard drive is also where all the PS3 demos etc are stored and taking space.

Re: Headlines - PS3 PlayTV service: How much?

I think £69.99 is actually pretty good when you compare the price of a dual DVB-T tuner card for a PC (Nova-T 500 goes for £53 at scan). That card won't be capable of HD either.

The big question is....can it record TV and play a game at the same time? If not then thats a big downside.

EDIT: The playTV website says that you can play a game and record at the same time

i'm confused about this talk of HD

there's no finalised spec, nor even plans, for HD over terrestrial in the UK

Me too. Is the UK digital freeview system even capable of delivering HD? I'm assuming the tuners in the PlayTV box are DVB-T and its firmware upgradable.

Well you can get some HD channels via Freesat in the UK, similar to Freeview but - as you can probably guess - requires a connection to a satellite dish. I’m not entirely certain if PlayTV would support a Freesat signal though. Found little info on the matter.

there is talk of a freeview hd service arriving at some point so i guess this thing will be furture proof

70 quid isnt a bad a price at all really considering it'll upscale your existing freeview

being able to record tv and play a game does make a certain 360 owner envious

Re: Headlines - PS3 PlayTV service: How much?

Originally it was banded around that it would be £50. £70 isn't too bad, but it *is* on the pricey side for what it is, especially since last I heard it won't let you play a game at the same time as record something.

I'll still probably get one though, can't stand watching SD TV on my TV!

Re: Headlines - PS3 PlayTV service: How much?

"PlayTV is a high performance PS3 accessory that meets all the European standards for DVB-T Digital terrestrial TV broadcasts"

i typed that from playtv's site...as far as i know freesat channels are broadcast using DVB-S. so i dont think this will be HD?

well any ways, it seems ok for that price, coupled with the psp even better functionality then a standard freeview. but as long as u have a bigger hard drive installed in your ps3.

Will it allow tv recordings to be recorded to an external hard drive? I might get my brother to look into this, actually put his ps3 into use for a change...

The official PlayTV website says that you can play games and record at the same time.

"PlayTV offers a whole range of benefits including an easy to use Programme Guide, the ability to record live TV while watching other channels and manage your recordings with the interactive video Library.

Plus you can play PS3 games and record TV shows at the same time, and if you are out and about connect to your PSP and watch TV on the go."

Re: Headlines - PS3 PlayTV service: How much?

Already have freeview and freesat HD in other rooms (to cover all possible free channels) but no recorder, so yes will def get this in the living room for the PS3. Was great having the Euro 2008 and Wimbledon live on hd for free Be interesting what the future holds for freeview and hd as well.

Also great to hear that you can record and play at same time

£17.99 for a dual tuner that works perfectly in Vista MC. Just don't use the signal pass through facility...
