Perhaps the individual processors will be named something a bit like i7850 (Like one is able to buy a E6750 or T7300)
At least it's still less confusing than the Nvidia product line up.
I think Gamer91 might be onto the right track - they could well be planning to use i7 as the code prefix.
I have also heard mention that the i7 style is similar to that used for Itanium processors, and Intel commented that it is the first of many brandings - so perhaps the mainstream consumer processors will have a nicer name, whilst they are hoping that by sharing the Itanium styling, they will acquire more of the power computing market with their high-end processors.
Still think it is probably a terrible name, to be honest
Personally I think it's a good change. I am forever having to explain to people that the "2" in Core 2 doesn't mean 2 cores. Hopefully the i prefix will help prevent this.
Why does everything have to be iThis and iThat these days? What's the significance of it. Are they all just jumping on the iPod bandwagen?

LOL I was going to post that this morning asking are they going for the "i" crew
I wonder if apples litigation department have got wind of this and are planning on some action. I doubt it would happen as Intel supply them with processors for certain products.
And in other news....
i-Chill cooler
aye aye cap'in.
I'm sick of all this "i" crap
They're copying Microsoft with their Windows 7.
i think the problem is things that have the i infront of them have proven to sell in the past. If it aint broke dont fix it.
Dont get me wrong i completely agree with u guys i think its lame but it works, easy to remember and modern sounding plus direct relation to one of the biggest selling products ever.
