I'm not a massive fan of RTS unless I can win it with a balance of power type playstyle. Build up a huge army with as many men and tanks as possible then just attack the base and hopefully win!!!
Played Red Alert 2 in its day and must admit I did quite enjoy it, wasn't to much management I found and it was easy to pick up and play. I got Supreme Commander a few weeks back from ASDA for a fiver instore and just can't get away with it at all.
Vista users may have a little trouble with this one so to save having to look about for it heres how you get it working!
Install the game running the setup.exe file in compatability mode for Win95
Install he 108 patch which can be downloaded directly from here :
ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/redalert/...s/RA108USP.EXE
Once installed set the compatability on the games exe file to Win98/Me
Set the resolution to 640x480
That should be it, should work fine!
It's got to be worth a download hasn't it? Think I'll pick it up when I get home :)
Well, I just tried it with the instructions I put up that I found on the Vista forums and I get a DLL error on startup and it won't go any further. Will keep having a tinker to see if I can get it going.
Ahh Red Alert....soooo many hours spent playing that game. Really did enjoy that during my time at university. :)
Thumbs up to EA for making it free :)
I'm running 32bit Vista but should imagine that it will be the same error I am getting. If I can work it out I will and post up results :)
If you are not downloading this you are insane!!
I'm just wondering if it's DRM infested :D
Cheers for the heads up. Downloading now. And woooof RA3 looks great! Girls, guns and emperors ... what more does a RTS need :)
Note to the Hexus mods/important people. Have Hexus considered doing a weekly download round up?
Game giveaways such as this are becoming more common and there are a lot of old titles out there available on shareware licenses. Perhaps every couple of weeks you could search out a classic title that’s freely available and do a little background section on it? It need not be limited to games either. Useful freeware apps could also be included...

I swear this is a repost?
I did post it a couple of days ago - HERE, but this thread is the Hexus official news (they're a bit late :p)
Sweet!
