Re: News - Microsoft aims for the casual: Xbox 360 now the cheapest next-gen console

Why reduce the price? Who are they targeting? Most people who wanted an XBox have got one ... Its been around for 3 years now, MS really need to produce an XBox 3 or something.

However if those prices by Christmas are real, I might have to get one just because it is so cheap. Thats probably the market. Attracting people with a console already.

Re: News - Microsoft aims for the casual: Xbox 360 now cheaper than Wii

Thing is though will we see reductions in Europe also? At the min it is aimed at the U.S, what they need to do is get the Euro price down before christmas also. Should imagine it would put them at the top spot in the christmas sales figures if they do.

Next gen is going to hit roundabout 2012 from what I have read about the net so the 360 is still a very viable option (as is the Wii and PS3). Plenty of life in it still, still yet to be pushed to its limits of what it can do also. Apparently Gears 2 will do just that according to Epic.

The price has also been reduced in Japan so hopefully we will see one too. Although the 360 has done well in the UK the rest of the EU has been quite a hostile market for them.

Maybe this has something to do with the plans of 'Halo 4' (lol) on the new Xbox? Or maybe shouldn't call it plans, more 'rumours'... But I won't doubt there will be next-gen consoles coming up...

Re: News - Microsoft aims for the casual: Xbox 360 now cheaper than Wii

erm... of course there are next-gen consoles coming up. that much is obvious

it's all a question of "when" though. a console usually gets 4-6 years on its own, and the 360 came out just under 3 years ago. by now they'll be well into development on a next-gen system (even if it's only conceptual and in talking contracts with companies like nvidia and ati), and concocting plans.

i strongly suspect gears of war 3 to be next-gen

conversely, sony keep talking about their "10 year strategy" for the ps3, which has been out for 2 years. that doesn't mean "10 years before the next system" though, it'll be the "cheap" second console like the ps2 is now (which is 8.5 years old). 1.5-2.5 years from now the ps2 will disappear, and rumblings will start on the ps4

No such thing as next-gen, as soon as it's here it's current-gen.

But it hasn't fallen below the £100 mark in the US. $199 is currently more like £110 at the moment due to our own floundering currency, besides add on VAT and other costs and we probably wouldn't see a price any less than £140 before christmas.

i think using "next gen" is a fair term until *all* the players catch up

the 360 was "next gen" compared to the ps2, when both were the most modern consoles their companies sold

And what about the people that previously haven't been able to justify the price, this makes the console affordable to tens of thousands of people that previously would not of bought one.

As soon as it hits about £99 quid for a basic edition I'll probably purchase a second xbox 360
