I was really looking forward to this! but at the moment, the MSI Wind is a far more attractive deal.

XP, a gig of ram, 16 gig SSD, and bluetooth. those are three reaonable reasons why it costs more than the low-end acer

    although i'm personally quite disappointed

I realised that after I had made the initial post. I had thought that it was the price for the bottom end linux model that the US have. I was hoping to get one to replace my current laptop (for which I have a good home) as all its used to is my email and sofa based web browsing. Lets hope they give us the ubuntu versions.

The Eeepc901 Linux version is a better choice. I was going to possibly cancel my order for the Eeepc and get a Dell but the overall package with the Asus netbook is better speced.

Re: News - Dell Inspiron Mini 9 now available, priced at £299

    Glad I didn't wait...

My EEE 901 has 802.11n, a 6 cell battery and was easily upgraded to use an 80GB 1.8" hard drive.

I bought that for £299.99 and the hard drive cost me about £70 by the time I got hit with some customs charges. But IMHO my EEE is now easily worth the £70 more than this Dell and others of the same ilk.

IMHO the best netbook is still the 901, and if your after the cheapest then it's still not the Dell (Acer, Advent et al got it beat) - shame as Dell are usually pretty good for price... That $99 add in is a total steal though.

Perhaps Dell should have made it a touch larger and integrated an optical drive?

The screen is also too small.

The Advent 4211 is a better bet, I reckon.

too big & you start to leave netbook territory - though the advent has a good price for the spec

Re: News - Dell Inspiron Mini 9 now available, priced at £299

Dell's US customers, however, face an interesting proposition - those who purchase a Studio 15, XPS M1530 or XPS M1330 notebook before September 9th can add an Inspiron Mini 9 to their order for just $99. That's quite a steal, but there's no sign of such an offer in any other markets.
What the , that is totally out of order. Do it for the UK you swines

Now I hate it.. just for that!

Oh well, I don't need the new laptop for a while, I will bide my time now.. yeah.. maybe I'll get a different laptop.. like an HP

    I Hate HP meh!

Oooh, according to the Dell specs (if you try and reconfigure it) it comes with a 2200Ah battery, 333x better than the Asus EEE 901! Methinks someone left an "m" out, which puts at 1/3 capacity.
If you can't keep up, stick with reality...

It offers nothing new and is over priced. Dell dropped a clanger with this tbh. I really thought they would maybe come in at a pricepoint to blow the competition away but again it all comes down to greed. These netbooks mostly all seem to be way over priced.
