Wow. By combining cool idea with something on a keyring, they have made this irresistible to me.
No, seriously. Must... get... audio... keyfob... thingy...
Re: News - Creative delivers high-end sound on the move with Sound Blaster X-Fi Go!
does it come with drivers yet?
Re: News - Creative delivers high-end sound on the move with Sound Blaster X-Fi Go!
Is there really a market for this?
Are laptop users that bothered that they dont have surround sound?
And for desktops, its pretty standard to have a Realtek 7.1 surround chip on board which is pretty good for those that dont want all the extra/advanced connectivity.
Make some decent Sound Cards and Speakers like you used to Creative. This is just a waste in my opinion.

Hmm so 1 output and 1 input - urk that's good for a 'surround' sound device.
Where are the connections for the Rear L/R speakers and Centre/Sub speakers for a 5.1 configuration as I know many gamers have 5.1 or above to give them that spacual awareness so stereo would be a step backwards.
The drivers and utils are going to be pre-installed on it's reported 1 Gb of flash memory so that should be issue sorted out :)

If you had superbly poor onboard sound then sure.. but all current laptops I've used are fine, especially when you plug in external speakers. And as Lee said, where is the support for anything but 2.1?

So it'll work till Windows 7, a new driver will be needed and therefore hit the bin? :D

Probably but don't get your hopes up for it to work on Vista.

If your laptop does have poor sound (or you fried the onboard sound somehow), then instead paying silly money for a Creative product, just by A cheap generic one for pocket change.
Unlike the creative one it uses some sort of generic USB audio API. I brought one, and it just works (without installing drivers or anything) in all the computers I tried. Linux & Windows. I expect it would work just a well on a Mac as well.

That looks suspiciously like those crappy "5.1" USB dongles for £5 on ebay, it's yet another case of Creative trying to get their mits on money from people susceptible to deceptive marketing, aka the X-Fi brand.

Creative tells us that the world-renowned gamer Johnathan ‘Fatal1ty’ Wendel helped test and approve the USB-powered sound card, and seeing as he liked it, we're guessing most "brand driven buyers" would, too.
-fixed-
Bar the CMSS 3D, Crystalliser and EAX4 support there is nothing a modern laptop's onboard sound can't do that the X-Fi can, the features I mentioned are all handled by software anyway so there is no reasonable difference in terms of hardware.
Waste of money IMO, especially when you can get something similar for a fiver off ebay.

Wow. Watch my enthusiasm crinkle like a crisp packet in an oven :(
Re: News - Creative delivers high-end sound on the move with Sound Blaster X-Fi Go!
Why oh Why is my first thought though when I saw the information regarding it's operation on the creative website.
Most the people I have spoken to who want an external soundcard have in the end going for the USB terratec soundcard as this has 5.1 support and optical in/out for connecting devices to and from the system and a few people I know have used the terratec usb soundcards to connect their xbox 360 via the optical output to their PC, using their PC speakers for the audio.

Hmm, I don't see what is wrong with it honestly, 2.1 sound is not really a problem, this is made to be on the go, so you going to be using earphones only as it's aimed at that market.
