I got quite excited by this - until I saw the price.

The case is from AOpen - comes with the motherboard and external PSU ... they go for around £200 if you can find one (much easier to get in the US).

Then it's just the CPU (£50 up), memory, CD and HDD (say £150-200 for 4GB, 320GB and a reasonable CPU) ... reckon you could build a decent spec one for a chunk less than £500.

What a sad state of affairs. The only reason they can make the claim to consume less power than Atom systems is that Intel insists that Atom is bundled for desktop with the crappy power-guzzling 945GC chipset.

The 945GSE used in Eee Desktops is a cut down and less hungry version of 945G but when Intel finally allow Poulsbo (SCH) into desktops then we'll see an Atom machine capable of 1080P and using 12-16W in total. Desktop/nettops could use the dual core Atom and still consume less than this machine, depending on other components like HDD.

Damn - I read the first line and thought I'd be able to enlighten people based on my sheffield knowledge, and then you go and tell people my inside scope!

Looks good, but about £500 above what i'd consider as a possibility.
