I put of getting a DS for a long time but to be honest I wish I had not. I can not wait for the release of the DSI and will certainly be picking one up
Re: News - Nintendo reveals the successor to the DS Lite: DSi arrives next Spring
It's got loads of bells and whistles but although these are nice they all seem a bit superficial. I'm more interested to hear how it compares to the existing DS Lite with regard to processing power, graphics, screen resolution, screen quality, video playback, control scheme (e.g. touch screens, tilt sensors etc).

I'd get it if stores dish up some very good trade-in deals with the current DS Lite.
I wonder what anti-piracy features Nintendo will throw in to help deter the widespread piracy? Adoption might be slower than anticipated if users find their illegal games no longer work.
On the other hand, the DSi could result in a DS Lite price drop - and the DS Lite is still a cracking little system. :)

It had me interested right up to the part about the crappy battery life... :(
Surely battery tech has advanced enough to at least keep it the same as before!!
Re: News - Nintendo reveals the successor to the DS Lite: DSi arrives next Spring
I actually don\'t see the point in this DSi. Piss poor battery life, no GBA support, don\'t forget that some peripherals use this slot as well. Seems Nintendo have dropped the ball with this one. Why can\'t they do the improvements without losing so much?
I see electronics getting smaller, more features getting added to phones, iPods, battery life being improved on everything but Ninty go the opposite route
I suppose all the fan boys will rush out and buy just for the sake of it.

I will probably trade mine in (given that the hinge breaks every few months ;)) for one of these so hoping for a good deal
Re: News - Nintendo reveals the successor to the DS Lite: DSi arrives next Spring
I'm not entirely sure what they've done here.
They've removed GBA support - read: they've removed support for the GH controller, no gba games, and no other expansion/rumble paks (what's the point in getting pokemon on this now? you're stuck without being able to get at least 150 of the old pokemon..)
They've added two cameras, both lousy resolution and no doubt will look terrible if viewed on a TV/PC. Why not just put one decent quality one up there..
MP3 playback - why would you buy a new DS just for that?
SD slot - with the ongoing R4 et al fiasco, they've shot themselves in the foot here. Otherwise it's an alright addition - maybe things like transferring saves will finally be possible..?
Larger screen - this isn't too bad, but i don't really see the point unless it's higher resolution
The browser is a nice touch, as is wii connectivity support, but otherwise a bit lacklustre.
I suppose it's the equivalent of the Micro - dropping legacy support (gb/gbc). A nice console, but i'll stick with my slightly chunkier, more useful one.

I'll reserve judgement on the DSi until we know more about this. It's not about pirated game,s it's about the homebrew and the backups of legaly bought full price games.
Re: News - Nintendo reveals the successor to the DS Lite: DSi arrives next Spring
But people like you who are concerned about that sort of thing are going to be in such a small minority it won't affect overall sales significantly.
My 6 yr old niece doesn't care for homebrew software.
Re: News - Nintendo reveals the successor to the DS Lite: DSi arrives next Spring
Given the way they're going I'm suprised it doesn't have Brain Training built into it.
I'm unconvinced - I don't see any use for most of the new features, I'll wait and see how this business with downloaded games etc. is going to turn out. Also, improved charge time is kinda pointless when the battery life is reduced...won't the Lite just last as long/longer on the same charge time?..

You are right of course, I was just saying that I won't jump to get one until I know more about it :)

Be nice if they did software updates via the connectivity or SD card slot.
