Why are Nikon making this? It's a hell of a departure from cameras.

well nikon deal with alot of optics, so it makes sense really...
an optical eye piece with some speakers and memory storage.

It would make sense if it was a wireless headset for one of their imagin products, like a microscope, but it isn't it's a very odd PMP.

I still dont get it.

This would be excellent for long haul flights if they can integrate it into their systems and improve durability

This reminds me of the neurointerface gaming headset thing at Overclockers.. difference being, that used mind control to play your character whereas this just looks geeky. And I'd be tempted by the gaming thing if it didn't apparently take a couple of months to train!
Nonetheless, I want one.
