Well this is where it derives it's competitive edge, it doesn't.

Do you think the grunt developers and the like who worked on these old titles will see any more money form these services or is it not simply some chancers looking to buy licenses for old games at knock down prices and then resell them on at profit.

revol, can you avoid turning every thread into a fight with stewart or a piracy thread its getting really old.

Seriously though, this is a business model based on buying old licenses off publishers and selling them on at profit to customers, am I wrong? I fail to see how this model is anymore more moral than people distributing and sharing them for no profit.

i fail to see a problem with it, if people already own the games they dont need them and if people dont and want them then they can get them cheaply.

Yes but they now own the licences, so you buying them would make the game you have legal. I could understand your point if they were selling the games at $30+ but there not.
Ther're selling the games at $6 and $10 which is £3and £5. Thats an absolute bargain. Just how much of a cheapskate are you?
You seem to have some morale objection to a company making a profit? Moraly better than stealing i'd say.
It's not as though they have just got the old flies and put them on a PC somewhere to upload to the internet either, they have made every game they sell vista compatible. Which alot of those wouldn't have been before.
I'll be keeping an eye on there for any interesting titles, for that price you can't really go wrong.

Is there any real point in creating an argument here about classic games being sold on for decent prices. Its the same as buying the Sold Out Software range where you can get 3 games for a tenner. Why not a similar business model but utilises digital distribution instead.

Mastertronic buy the licenses for old games and pass it onto the consumer. Nintendo have done the same with the Wii virtual console. Believe it or not, publishers like System 3 still hold the rights to their older games so they must be getting something from sales of games like IK and Last Ninja.

Be all and end all is knock it off, no point in arguining with everyone. You are fully allowed to express your views on the HEXUS boards. Just think on what you are typing and how others will react to it.

Ahem, back on thread - this sounds pretty cool actually. If only so that I can pick up Operation Flashpoint again... loved that game. Hopefully the catalogue will expand even more as it gains popularity...

Say what you will but I believe this is a step in the right direction, reasonable prices as well, I was also surprised to see some fairly recent games on there too like, Colin McRae 2005 and TOCA 3 :)

at the drop of a hat just now i bought mdk 2 for $5.99 or about £3.50 and the downloads dont seam to be that bad. pulling about 1.1MB/s. i will report back soon

i will definitely be buying a drm free digital download of Operation Flashpoint from G0G, a brilliant idea.

FreeSpace 2 looks amazing, been checking out the Open Source Mods and BtRL as well, simply stunning for an engine almost a decade old! :)

OMG... I've been wanting a copy of Descent for ages now, could never find a decent place to download it from! it is now downloading as I type, so shall see how it goes... for £3.50 or thereabouts it's hard to go wrong really :) :rockon2:

Looks a really good service :D I remember MDK when it came out I was interested in it but not interested enough to pick it up there are a lot of games from back then like that so now I can go back and get all the games I missed out on first time around :D

Thinking of getting toca 3, do you play it through another program like steam or do you just get a compressed file to install from?

went fine
you download a compressed installer, agree to the eula and select where to install. there is no extra software to run. if you run the game under vista it also installs to the games menu.
