oh dear"Being the first person in the UK to own this mobile phone is amazing," gushed Burgess. "I'm going to be popular at work! I've been waiting for this phone for months and I knew I had to be the first to own it."

Its a phone for goodness sake. Get over it.
That is quite possibly the ugliest phone that HTC have ever produced. I mean, really...Blue Angel looked better than that and that was about 5-6 years ago. Please tell me the Burgess quote's just something that you made up?
I bought one in the U.S. last week and hopefully you can find some value in my experiences.

can someone briefly update me with what the benefits of these kind of phones are? what is this platform?
does it hold the whole wide world interwebs inside it? and makes it faster.

What exactly makes it ugly? i dont think there is anything wrong with the appearance at all and tbh, im quite interested in these once they reach 2nd gen and have all the problems ironed out. I have heard that the android platform will work on quite a few of the earlier HTC phones which is good news as i haven't managed to find a satisfactory method of syncing up my smart phone with my mac or my ubuntu systems and i reckon this may be the saving grace.
It just looks cheap and tacky, as though it were encased in that white plastic that the cheapest toilet seats in Homebase are made of. By contrast, all the HTC Touch variants have looked pretty good. Also, I've had two Treo Pros delivered for users here, and they look fab by comparison.
everything wrong with the G1 (apart from the stupid kink that makes it look like its bent/melted slightly) can be seen in this comparison
