While you've got it, can you do a mini-review of the KillerNIC pleeeeaaaaasse? Just for giggles.

    Why not.

I can still vividly remember being in Vegas and meeting the guys from Killer, who took product evangelism to a whole new level by wearing huge 'K' medallions around their necks at CES.

They were hard to miss, I'd give 'em that.

the quoted price of this is nothing short of disgusting..ya sure ppl expect a mark up for custom built systems, doubly-so for water-jobbies but 6g for s system which would cost less than 2.5g to build is just...wrong
shame on them for even trying to push that price

To a point I agree, but it does get a little annoying when people don't take into account the extra work that must go into machines like this. However, for the specs mentioned in the article it is a LOT LOT more expensive than its individual parts. Look at the water cooled systems that Vadim, SCAN, Kobalt, UV Machines (not shure what happened to them) have been selling for the last 2-3 years - it's all been done before, and better.....(ok not Vadim any more but the systems they used to sell had twice the cooling capacity of this "no holds barred extreme PC", 50C on load at stock leaves NO room for any decent 130W CPU Ocing because there are 2 x 4870X2s and a NB in the same loop - look at any other decent company and they will run seperate loops for the CPU and GPUs for £6000!!!),

Also, 2 x four page previews in the last 4 weeks of the same case but without any figures, benchmarks, etc

Totally uneducated comments like this make me laugh, the parts will cost you more than 2.5k what do you expect a company to do spend hours/days building/reaserching/testing these types of computers then sell it to you at a loss? I bet there actually isnt a huge margin considering...

Re: Previews - BEAST Computers' ultimate Intel Core i7 machine

i do agree the price is very high, but iim sure this due to the parts being extreamely new on market and atm this seems more of a prototype pc than a actuall pc they would sell customers atm.

just remember how much the first plane ticket cost when air travel came about...

things will go down in price, i think it best to wait and see the finished product before we can judge the companys priceing.

how in the hell do you have a clue if its totally uneducated ?
i'm fully aware of costs of systems and understand there's margins to cover etc. but call it £3000 for parts, thats a £3000 charge for the setup

£1500, maybe £2000 sure, but charging £3000 for the work is excessive

£1000 is the limit imo for a custom built computer (excluding the components costs obviously)

    It's 4.98*

Re: Previews - BEAST Computers' ultimate Intel Core i7 machine

BEAST obviously thinks it makes financial sense to target the money-no-object market, quite whether it'll work out we'll see in the long run - will the company be able to sell enough to carry on, or will they end up like the dozens of boutique builders that have gone under over the years?

Realistically, its hard for a small company to compete on price with any of the big players on more modestly priced systems simply due to differences in economies of scale, and they've effectively been forced to cater to niche markets.

That said, there's extreme and theres obscene - how much of a performance increase will a second HD 4870 X2 really provide? Does the killer NIC provide any tangiable benefit? Does the cooling solution really make sense? The system as a whole seems built for those that want the absolute most in terms of on-paper performance, without really taking all factors into account. One for those who like to brag more than frag. That said, building a watercooled system can be quite time consuming and very daunting for those without experience. As such, for those with appropriate incomes, getting a pre-build, tested and warrantied system could very well be worth the additional cost. Whilst those of us with more modest incomes may be shocked at the price, I'm sure there will be people shocked at the amount of time and effort we are willing to spend researching components, shopping for the best prices and building and configuring our systems.

If this is a market that can provide BEAST with a steady income stream in the face of ever more difficult market conditions then good on them, but certainly their curent line up is not for the rabid enthusiast who would no doubt be better off building their own computer to their personalised specifications.
