should be good for the price wars
Lets not forget now that hexus showed that an i7 could also run at 4ghz in less than ideal conditions. :rules:
Assuming that AMD could make these 4ghz chips, there would be amazing price wars between the 2.
I'm on the cautiously hopeful side of this though.
Yeah im with CK, im sceptical that these CPUs wil be anything special or will make any difference to the market but i really hope they do!
There's been alot of rumors the last few months concerning Deneb with samples allegedly being overclocked to 4.2 on air and the FX brand resurfacing in summer 2009, if the leaked roadmaps are true the highest clocked 45nm avaliable at launch will be 3GHz.
Good to see AMD nearly got to 4Ghz it shows great improvement to people who've had their eye on this processor, looking forward to a review to see if these numbers/rumors are true.
gigabyte have got the compatible bios out for my 790x-ds4, just waiting for the processor itself now :)
Glad I waited for my update :)
Just hope Intel lay off on their price drops for a while and AMD can pick up a bit, otherwise if Intel drop the prices as soon as these tihngs are on the street AMD could well end up in real dodoo
Rather short sited of you...I
f it werent for companies like AMD then Intel would have no competition and we'd all still be paying a lot more money for a lot less CPU, competition is a great thing for us as both companies try to do better/cheaper CPU's, if there wasn't that competition where would we be....?
AMD's gotta be struggling moneywise atm, with the overpayment for ATi still fresh in there minds Intel have started kicking there arse's when it comes to CPU's (C2D) and with the financial situation as it is, cant be good for the little guy...
Am I making it up or did Intel dump a load of cash into AMD a few years back to keep them going? Because if AMD had gone down the pan Intel would have been getting a lot more heat from governments concerning competition.
*edit* Ignore me, I may be thinking of Microsoft investing in Apple a back before the iMac that turned them around.
short sighted or not, i want to pay near nothign for brillaint performance when i buy. thats it.
Cherry-picked engineering samples reaching nice overclocks isn't anything new.
If these CPUs were anything special AMD would be screaming it from the rooftops, which they aren't....so i wouldn't hold out too much of a hope.
Shame, as prices probably won't budge much but then I am starting to get the feeling AMD have brought their recent short-coming on themselves by stretching their outfit too far with the AMD/ATI merger. It's doesn't seem to have gone well for them since.
'productise', lol. Reminds me of that old story where the wicked witch frogised a prince.
AMD stopped screaming it from the rooftops when they discovered that announcing product details with more than a couple of months before launch meant that a competitor such as Intel, with a budget many times larger than their own, had enough time to either produce a very similar product or just produce something to rival or better it!
Since nVidia has been sitting on its bum ever since the 8800 series came out, essentially, ATI have made big gains in the GPU market. And this news shows that AMD may be back in the game competing in the mid to mid-high end CPU market. Sure it's not going to beat Nehalem, but if they release decent-priced quad cores at more than 3GHz, they'll be making a decent inroad into Intel's profits in that area.
Bring on the competition!
