Just a small correction - you can UPGRADE unlocked, 2.1 2g iPhones and still keep your phone unlocked - I have done this myself.

What you can't do is RESTORE your unlocked 2g iPhone with the new firmware (a different process) as that would remove the lock.

Upgrading via iTunes works fine though Sadly this update is of little benefit to 2G owners..fingers crossed for copy+paste soon!
