You'd have thought Microsoft would've got the hang of making operating systems by now, but the public availability of the second service pack produced for Vista...this year implies otherwise.
Bit harsh!
Re: News - Vista SP2 Beta available from tomorrow
I don't think Vista is as bad as people make out. Sure it had some growing pains, but then what OS doesn't?

Can this one be properly integrated via slipstreaming?

According to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../dd335036.aspx

SP2 also includes a Service Pack Clean-up tool (Compcln.exe) which helps restore the hard disk space by permanently deleting the previous versions of the files (RTM and SP1) that are being serviced by SP2. The Pack Clean up tool can also be run offline while creating slipstream images to reduce the size of the image.
Looks promising.

You'd have thought the linux community would know how to write an OS by now, they release a new kernel every other week and still they need to keep working on it! It must be rubbish!!!

Then again vista did take 5 years to develop. it had to drop alot of features. first day experience was not good. it took around a year to release service pack 1 which fixed most of the issues.
so 6 years to make a stable OS?
does seem a rather long time.
luckily windows 7 even pre beta is very stable.

Or they could release a new OS every year with only incrimental changes and the same functional increase that a service pack gives you for nothing. People* would complain about that.
*Normal people, not Mac owners, obviously.

LOL very true
only real issue with vista really is the speed. still quite slow
of course it still has the issue that all windows os's have which is leftovers in the registry after uninstalling applications.

I'd say that's am issue with naughty uninstallers rather than the OS.

I only stopped using it due to Abit's inability to properly sign a driver, other than that I enjoyed using it, going to switch back when my new wireless card gets delivered.

Tosh - and so the seven for NT 4 made that bad? And the three for XP? I'd rather expect more from Hexus!
Remember kids: patching things is bad - and not patching things is just as bad. In fact, you can't win.
I'm just glad every software release I do is utterly infalable, perfect and future proof.
