Re: News - Kosmix aiming to topple Google as king of Internet searches
its certainly feature packed, just had a quick visit and searched a few things i often search for.
Depending on what you search for, depends on where the search results are displayed, highly annoying when i gotta scan the whole page to find what im after.
I dont see it getting very far as when i use a search engine i want it to be fast and find what im after.
Kosmix is alot slower then google but does shows alot more on the screen.
Sticking with google but will keep an eye open on it.

"Don't search, explore."
I think that sums it up. From a quick play it doesn't really cut it as a search engine, but as an aggregater of mainstream topics it does quiet well.
Re: News - Kosmix aiming to topple Google as king of Internet searches
How can an aggregator (not a search engine, mind you) that uses Google search to produce its results topple Google? :D I'd like some more sense with my articles, please.
Kosmix doesn't give me any more (or better) results than what I can already get with the built-in search in any modern browser. It just piles them all on your screen in a very non-user-unfriendly way.

now you too can make your search results look like a crap myspace/blog

Hello,
Interesting post, though your title is misleading, and misrepresents what Kosmix is aiming to do. I'd encourage you to read Anand's recent blog post (which I can't link to because I'm a new user on Hexus - it's at blog dot kosmix dot com), so that you can be clear on our mission.
"To those of you new to Kosmix, the easiest way to explain what Kosmix does is by analogy. Google and Yahoo are search engines; Kosmix is an explore engine. Search engines work really well if your goal is to find a specific piece of information — a train schedule, a company website, and so on. In other words, they are great at finding needles in the haystack. When you’re looking for a single fact, a single definitive web page, or the answer to a specific question, then the needle-in-haystack search engine model works really well. Where it breaks down is when the objective is to learn about, explore, or understand a broad topic."
Google is great for searching (obviously), and we treat their content just like any other content on the web. They're just another source.
We do appreciate constructive feedback as we continue to improve the product - we just opened the doors this week, and are now executing for the future. Context + intent + relevance + content density is a hard nut to crack, and we're very much enjoying the ride.

Thank you for taking the time out to reply. I've amended the title to be more reflective of what Kosmix does.
