Haven't yet had a chance to try out the beta of Microsoft's next operating system? Not to worry, there are no download limits until January 24th.

Re: News - Microsoft removes the 2.5 million-user limit on Windows 7 beta

Has anyone managed to get the taskbar running like on Vista/XP?

As in close together quick launch icons?

I really hate the new stuff...

Re: News - Microsoft removes the 2.5 million-user limit on Windows 7 beta

To be honest from playing around with it and as my PC is 99% a gaming rig I can't actually see any difference between vista and windows 7 for my needs. I do like the new networking features but for me on my system Vista handles just as good so I am now wondering if Windows 7 is worth the money. I will go to Windows 7 eventually but when Vista isn't supported or games require DX11.

Why not just install DX11 on vista?

I tried changing it but the icons were still too fat and far spaced. If I can get the taskbar to how the 2nd picture looks (on that site) but on a single line then I won't have any worries of using Windows 7 as my main OS

This is a route I am seriously considering Kalniel. I think personally for me Windows 7 would be a purchase for when I replaced the gaming shuttle in a few years. It's decent and stable enough in it's beta form and I have the 32bit version running on the samsung netbook and it handles well.

There is barely a demand for DX 10 as it stands let alone DX11 so hopefully a couple of years before DX10/11 is main stream

I am very happy with Vista and it allows me to play the games I do and plays them well so Windows 7 will be an upgrade down the line and in years to come I think

I have CoD 4 and Left 4 Dead on there atm and Dawn of War with add on's running atm. Then I left it for the night. Can't get steam games running atm as steam craps out, haven't tried the rest.

Only other issue I have come across is with the .net 2008 express editions on windows 7 but a bit of tweaking fixed that.

I've seen users reporting that Farcry2 doesn't work properly. Although it could be a Punkbuster issue...

It gets past the install and login section then when you go to nab the games it will download it and then lock up and you need to restart it so not sure what the cause is there. Still looking into it and wondering if it was down to a driver issue or a router issue but I will look into it tonight and see how I get on.

Use the torrents, don't need a key if you aren't trying it long you can trial it for 30 days (after that you need the key). Just like Vista is.
