for the low to top end 1800mhz £200+ still far outweighs the advantages for me. The lower end of the market with the 1066 is proving to be more wallet friendly. Ive just got 4GB Corsair twinx over at scan for £96

its around £15 per GB stick at aria at the mo, so £59 for 4. own-branded but a good indication of the way things are going. am3 is looking very well timed actually as its not going to take much more of a drop before its not crazy to go for ddr3 rather than ddr2.
infact i think i spent about 70 on my 4x1 ddr2 so we are already at my threshold, although i would need it to be 8gb or more this time :)

Guys, where are you getting your prices? A major-label 6 gig i7 kit is £100 or less if you know where to look
e.g. http://www.lambda-tek.com/components...prodID=B152769

I am going to shift to DDR3 soon.
Lately the DDR2 market have been flooded with DDR2-800 CL6 modules which are horrible, doesn't overclock more than 5% regardless of voltage.

Remember also that i7 requires you install sticks in TRIOS for performance, not pairs

That is a good price,i'm about to build a new PC and i've been keeping my options open by maybe getting a board that takes both DDR2 and DDR3.
If you put 4gb of both into a new system seperately can you notice a difference in performance with say a Q9550 or Q9650,I've read alot about ram recently and quite a few say it's minimal difference on a 2 channel board.
Still weighing up the options :juggle:

Re: News - What to pay for your desktop DDR3 RAM in late January 2009
The i7 platform has nothing to offer me right now - i've got all the power i currently need and the cost of admission to DDR3 (cpu + mb + ram) seems far too high.
