Good ole' Sony. We'll rip the pockets right out of your trousers along with the cash.
So in US they are paying £1,750, and here we have to pay £3489.00, thats right rip off.
Fly to U.S.
Buy two.
Come home.
Sell one on ebay?
The crazy thing is even though people will be moaning about 'rip-off britain' they'll still buy them.
Until people cotton on and don't purchase these items with markups like this they'll keep on doing it.
You have got to be kidding... I sincerely hope no one is dumb/crazy enough to pay that much - it's over-priced enough in the States without them adding a 100% 'British people are too stupid to notice' mark up.
What possible reason could they have to justify this price difference??
So.......
£3500 grand on an 11" Tv
oooooooooooor
Spend a two grand less on a nice Plasma screen and with the spare cash treat yourself.
I know the tech is new and all conquering but realisticly at that value for money its not even close to being worth it.
We're being told we need to spend our way out of recession yet how can we when things like this are allowed to happen ?
The truth of the matter is that we're subsidizing the cheap prices in the States.
blah blah blah.
As has already been pointed out, it's an 11" TV. Even if it was being sold for £1,750 here you would be crazy (or completely minted) to spend that amount of money on it. As it stands it's twice that price, and I would wager than exactly the same number of them will be sold. And not a single one of them to a Hexus member.
So what's the problem? It's not like anyone that has already commented in this thread was going to buy one anyway.
Sony have obviously done their homework and decided that they can charge this amount for the product. it is their legal obligation to their shareholders to make as much money as possible. No-one else is selling a TV like this so they can charge whatever they believe people will pay for it.
Good on you Sony. And I say this without even the slightest hint of sarcasm.
Hopefully technology like the OLEDs used in this TV will become more common. It is a good thing that Sony are willing to try out new technologies like this even if it is for niche products. Having first seen an OLED screen on a Kodak digital compact camera a few years ago they are great!! LCDs used to be very expensive too but look how cheap they are now!! The first bagless vacuum cleaner designed by James Dyson was built by a Japanese company in the 1980's and cost a few thousand dolars. However it meant that he was able to set up his company and introduce more affordable bagless cleaners later on. The cutting edge is always expensive.

It's a bit like car shows where they show all the prototype model designs - everyone bleats on at them to just build and sell them, and they rarely do without either cutting them down for cost purposes and mass-market production. (or they happen to be bespoke a la Aston Martin's One 77)
Sony happen to be selling the prototype here, where in the past you would never been able to see one unless you were a trade-show go-er, now you get to buy one, for a price.
That's the price you pay for being on the bleeding edge, have you guys forgotten that plasma screens were regularly into the £15,000 range not all that many years ago? Now you can get far better specified models for under £700.
Quite why that price is now double that of America I don't know, especially with the pound doing a nose-dive..

Okay, under £500 then, lol - I think the 1080p 24fps jobbies are still about £700ish

There is one on RicherSounds for £449 i think. And it's a far better panel that the £8,000 Philips (which came with a massive stand to make the scree head height) that my dad wanted to buy in his midlife crisis. Thankfully he procrastinates too much and never bought it.
