    Such a shame.

Pioneer produced the best picture quality displays. The kuro screens are incredible, have a google. The terrible lcd alternatives available by other manufacturers just cant compare. The price of course was not great.

If you go into a high street store today 90% of the screens available display a lcd picture far worse than a good old crt.. I wonder how long it will take now for them to catch up especially now the better quality alternatives are going. It seams we are taking a huge leap back in time regards to image quality.

    RIP.

Yes they were fantastic but as you said were significantly more expensive than the excellent Panasonic plasmas eg TH46PZ80B £770.49 inc VAT and 5 year warranty

And if you go in a high street store I bet the 90% of bad pictures could be improved on ten fold if they were setup correctly!
LCD's don't always provide a better picture, but believe me, my lcd has a better picture most of the time as it get's used as a htpc display, xbox 360, Wii, dvd and Sky HD......can't remember many HD CRT's can you?

There are a few, I have an old 28" 1080i (over component) capable JVC p37 in my bedroom. Both Panasonic and JVC had 36" 1080i crt's.

Definitely true, not so bad now most are running freeview, but I remember the days of them all running analogue tv with a shared aerial, probably not even using an amplifier so the reception was really poor. But yes, they aren't set up well enough to really show them off, especially in the likes of Comet and Currys.
