WD are my FAVOURITE drive company, bar none. So trusting them to buy someone elses technology seems... cheating
Hope they test things to destruction.. and not just the hardware, but the process behind the dev work too.

Well, this is not exactly a case of suing the company they are looking to acquire first to bankrupt them *caugh*Creative*caugh*, so nothing I'd consider below the belt. The only thing I care about as a consumer is whether they can make good use of the technology they've acquired (and given that the acquisition isn't free, this is for their own benefit too). They've pushed the envelop on the traditional HD end a couple of times, lets see if they can do that for SSD too.
smart move, well done to them!
