Interesting acquisition can’t really see what they are going to do with it…

Make Oracle only run on Sun hardware? :p Would be a great move for Microsoft if they did hehe
They will probably try and push the hardware with the software now - citing tighter integration and better support or something similar.

Not necessarily - it is open source - there is nothing to stop the developers from developing it and to offer (paid for) support. It might falter for a while, but I doubt it will go away.

Still have a soft spot for "Sun" (having been working on Solaris for the best part of the last 10 years) so happy to see that they have found a "suitor" now.
Have to say though that their hardware although reliable, even on non sparc systems always seems to come at a premium.
Be interesting to see how they start to market themselves now.

TBH we've had nothing but failure issues with both modern AMD64 Sunfires, and classic big bastard SPARC boxes
Re: News - Oracle snatches Sun away from IBM
I'm supporting a big bunch of Sun kit at the moment, running Solaris 10. It's a LOT better than it used to be. Hopefully ZFS will be relicensed into the Open Source community.

At least Solaris 10 has begun to SLOWLY replace the culture of "retarded by default because of tradition" that's always done my head in.
/bin/sh as default editor? /bin/ed as default editor? Why bother even turning up if you're gonna play silly buggers?

It's the stupid keyboard layout that gets me. Absolutely criminal.
