Slightly higer capacity? At the min its 50GB disks but that has the potential to triple and quadrouple. I dont care about the region lock in tbh. If im buying the disks brand new from amazon then its going to be fine for me. And features?! Its a disk, what does it need features for? It either plays videos or stores alot of data. At least thats all i want from it.

I agree it is expensive but so was dvd when it first came out. Give blu-ray a while and the prices of media and hardware will come down.

I just started reading that article, but it is really poorly written... I don't think the guy can cope with sentences more than a line or two long.

You can also see that everything he says about Vista is based on someone else's opinion, ie "Many analysts said...", "People had problems with...". It's all well and good taking them into consideration, but it seems to have been done without any critical analysis, which is a recipe for absolute rubbish.

Read all the "Vista is teh suck" posts on here (and the rest of the interwebs), they're all the same, "my mate's uncle's brother's neighbour's wife's stepfather has it, says it's really slow, it's crap".

Re: News - Microsoft features big in Time's "10 biggest tech failures of the decade"

    45GB vs 50GB

Triple layer HD-DVDs were just about ready to go when they realised that Sonys marketing had blinded consumers into buying the inferior products.....and that was at a time when sony had a catastrophic defect rate on dual layer blu ray.

And the triple and quadruple....Adding layers is fine and good but it will make the discs unplayable in previous players......where as all HD-DVD drives sold were capable of reading triple layer discs.

    Anyway, thats OT enough

Blu-ray had the better name, therefore superior.

You would hope that a respected publication such as Time would take the time (excuse the pun) to get the name right: it's Microsoft Windows Vista, not just Microsoft Vista.

Re: News - Microsoft features big in Time's "10 biggest tech failures of the decade"

Vista really wasnt that bad... the ram requirements are the only thing that lets it down. Its much more reliable than XP, more helpful when errors occur and Ive seen it to be as fast especially at startup.

Its just the mass of whining gits who hopped on the flame bandwagon.

Windows 7 is more of a marketing campaign designed to put an end to noobs who flamed a perfectly good OS in the first place.

Now having at least 2GB of ram is the industry standard there is nothing really that wrong with vista.

and Youtube? why? OK it has let in to some publisher BS latley with Warner Bros just deleting peoples videos without notice and Geographic availability and allowing normal users to make videos US only... I guess its purely for financial reasons.

Vista isn't a technical failure, it's a marketing failure. It works, arguably much better than XP, on suitable hardware. However, Microsoft clearly shot themselves in the foot with their 'Ready for Vista' labelling of hardware that proved to be inadequate.

YouTube's big problem is that it's users are so sporadic in demographic, which makes advertisers think twice. I do think Google can crack it eventually though, but it will require one sophisticated advertising platform.

I like how they say Vista only has a 24% share compared to XP at 62%. Does the fact Vista was released 4 or 5 years after XP not factor into it? So its not really that bad, I would like to see the figures of 2000 usage and XP in the same time frame.

Exactly, and that was also the time roughly of Windows ME! Considering XP is the longest lived version of windows I'm actually surprised that after such a well entrenched OS in the market share that it's actually falling as quickly as it is.

Aside from the moaners on some forums etc I don't know anyone personally in "real life" who's deliberately chosen XP over Vista when getting a new PC. Sure people complain about Vista (lack of drivers etc) but it's actually much less than when XP came out in my experience (how quickly some people forget). Vista's been far more stable for me and much better with driver compatibility than when I upgraded from 98 to XP (when I had to dump and replace pretty new hardware at the time).
