    Re: News - SilverStone showcases 1,500W PSU with 85 per cent efficiency

    How is efficiency worked out?

    Is it n% efficient at m% of full load? Is it averaged over a range of loads?

    Indeed, is efficiency vs. load a linear relationship, or some other function?
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    It's a minimum efficiency over a range of loads. At any particular load the efficiency can be higher.

    Honestly... who's *ever* going to use 1.5kW? That's just ludicrous.

    In terms of high wattage power transformers, 85%+ in home appliances is quite good

    Some incandescent light bulbs make for scary reading

    I need 80667 of these to power my time machine...

    1.21 Gigawatts !

    80plus certification requires the stated efficiency at 20%, 50% and 100% load. Corsair have graphs for their PSUs showing the efficiencies at these points and in-between. So, as long as your computer idles at 300W, these will do fine !

    ^ That's only a touch over $36 million dollars. If you become the sole winner of Friday's Euromillion, you'll get your money back!

    Still not enough for 4x 4870X2 in a Foxconn Destroyer with an E6400 running at 6 Ghz.
