It started out as a simple idea, but then someone somewhere sugested they add this other little bit of detail, and because that got approved, everyone else started insisting on their own agenda. The result is this.

Is it a typo that there is a 1155 pin socket and a 1156 pin socket in that chart? Or have Intel really released two sockets that only differ by a single pin?! :wallbash: :angst:

only reason i can see for this is to make you buy more when upgrading.
On the upside when i switched my pc on i had a core2quad and p35 board since reading this thread my PC has been instantly upgraded to Core i3 without me having to spend any money.
It's gotta be a good 25,000,000,000% faster now its core i3 woohoo!!!

Does anyone know for definite if the current Motherboards for the i7's will be compatible with the Gulftown chip? The Chipset and Socket appear the same so it looks hopeful.
I quite fancy one of ASUS's Mobo's but would be dissappointed at spending £300 on their top model when it would not support future 32nm chips.

I still keep thinking, why'd Intel not just call any Nehalem-related parts "Core 3"? If they wanted Westermere to be "different", call it "Core 4".
However, Core 3 would have done till Sandy Bridge (which would be Core 4).
