Re: News - UK Folding Plug concept could be best thing since electricity

What sort of safety regulations govern plugs these days?

It's got a fuse and it's got the three prongs so i imagine it would be ok, but do the wires need to be a certain thickness/certain insulation thickness?

I'd happily buy a pack of ten and go round rewiring all of the gadgets i use the most! The idea to put a double width one as a USB adaptor on the three way (as well as a standard socket) is genius, i'd definitely get one of those. At the moment i use a Sony Walkman transformer block and one of those standard AC cables. Or one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/LUPO-1000mA-.../dp/B000SD4KBE

Re: News - UK Folding Plug concept could be best thing since electricity

That is brilliant, such a simple and clever way to decrease the space used by a plug. This innovation is really remarkable and I do hope it gets to market really quick because I'd be glad to transfer most my plugs to something like this, currently have a massive 6 socket extension to run everything around my desk which is cumbersome and annoying.

Re: News - UK Folding Plug concept could be best thing since electricity

Major safety concern would be if someone tries to take the plug out at an angle and breaks off the bottom two prongs, and if they are now live...

    Nevertheless, fantastic idea...

Can anyone tell me if the bulky British plugs are in any way better than the standard European ones?

If you mean the standard European two-pin plugs, the UK ones stay in the sockets/adapters much, much better. I lived in South Africa a few years back and over there most imported electrical goods come with the two-pin plugs; they were a nightmare. They'd frequently move around inside the socket and lose contact.

Plus our 3-pin plugs are fused.

Very nice idea, I reckon that will be snapped up- let's hope they've patented it because if they came up with it they deserve every penny they are entitled to if it goes to market.

Looks good - be interested to see if an actual prototype works and passes safety regs. Needs to have something to prevent fuse removal whilst plugged in...
